Moving Rooms
Communication During the Settling-In Period
We know that the first few nursery sessions can feel just as significant for parents as they do for children.
We aim to provide reassurance and maintain open communication throughout the settling-in period.
Parents can communicate with the nursery team through Famly and through conversations with practitioners.
We will share important information about your child's day, including relevant care information and how they are settling into nursery life.
Parents are also encouraged to share information from home with us, particularly when there has been a change which may affect the child's wellbeing or behaviour.
Moving From Seedlings to Blossoms
For children who progress from Seedlings into Blossoms, transition is carefully supported.
Because both rooms form part of the same nursery provision, children have opportunities to become familiar with practitioners, environments and routines before they move.
We will support children gradually and share relevant information between practitioners so that families do not feel they are starting again when their child moves rooms.
Parents/carers will be kept informed about transition arrangements and given opportunities to discuss their child's move.
From Blossoms to School
The final stage of the nursery journey is the transition from Blossoms into Reception.
During the summer term, we support children to begin thinking positively about starting school.
Where appropriate, this may include:
- discussions and stories about starting school;
- opportunities to practise independence skills;
- transition activities;
- communication with receiving schools;
- sharing relevant developmental and support information;
- visits or transition arrangements where available; and
- opportunities to celebrate the children's nursery journey.
Children attending Blossoms also have the opportunity to take part in our special end-of-year graduation celebration before beginning their next adventure at school.
A Partnership with Families
We believe children settle, learn and thrive best when nursery and home work together.
From your child's first induction session through to their final day with us, we want families to feel comfortable sharing information, asking questions and speaking with the nursery team.
Our aim is for every child to begin their time at Leyland St James's feeling:
welcomed, secure, valued and excited to explore.
